Most people see cars as mere hunks of metal rolling down the road, not caring how they work, or why they break, only getting angry when they don't work right. Why can't cars have a soul, too? You can't prove that they do, but then, you can't prove that people have them, either. To a doctor or scientist, a person may be merely flesh, blood, and bone. To a mechanic, a car may be merely metal, rubber and plastic. How do you prove there's more to something when you can't show it, touch it, hear it, smell it, taste it?
